Thiosulfate dismutation and ferric iron respiration
 
     
 

Certain bacteria are able to carry out dismutation of thiosulfate and ferric-iron-respiration at the same time. They transform thiosulfate according to the equation given in the exercise. The dashed line follows the reduction of ferric-iron to ferrous iron, the full lines indicate the dismutation of the thiosulfate sulfur atoms. Thiosulfate is ­S-SO3- (= S2O32-).

Complete the figure by assigning the proper number of electrons being transfered. Choose +e- for electrons which are released during oxidation processes and ­e- for electrons which are used for reduction reactions.
