		With the aid of pe/pH stability diagrams one can decide why sulfate reducers always produce sulfide and not sulfur, why alkalophilic sulfate reducers require much more reducing conditions than acidophilic ones and why sulfurotrophic sulfatogens require less oxidizing conditions than sulfidotrophic sulfatogens and sulfidotrophic sulfurogens at neutral pH.
